What light to use for 125 gal? Hey guys ~ I use to have a double strip tube light thingy with 2, 32 watt bulbs. It was awesome and so natural and bright. But it died and I forget what bulbs I used! I have literally return approx 20 bulbs to my LFS as they are were dull, and horrilbe! I think it is because I only have a single strip light thingy. I want bright and I want the greenery to pop with color. I am returning yet another $25 dollar light today:( Help! |
Lights can be frustraiting !!!! I went through exactly what you are going through a while ago. We need some info to help you out... What are the dimesions of your tank??? What fixtures do you have now?? Do you have live plants?? What is your budget??? What kind of hood do you have on the tank and how much room do you have for lights??? On my 55 I have 4 light fixtures. 2 6500k tubes to keep the plants Happy, and 2 8000K to make it bright and make me happy . On my 125 long I have a 72" fixture with 2 tubes, 3 metal halides and some blue LEDs for night time viewing. Let us know what you are working with.... Post a pic if you can :-D |
I know ~I didn't give very much info. I was trippin about catching my 9 fish for trade it. I just got back ~ I got $198 for 9 Fish ~ 5 Fronts, and 2 Leleupi and 1 Blue Dolphin and some odd one. And ~ At our LFS we use to have a huge eel called SMUD, that is our electricity company's name here. He was 44 years old! He just died yesterday so they took down his tank and sold me the light fixture for $30 with two lights. He put them on a tank too and it was the perfect color!! I wonder though....what it will look like on my tank! I will let you know! Thanks so much! |
Good luck .... post a pic when you get it setup :-) |
I will! The light is perfect! |
Ah, You went to Capitol. I didn't know SMUD died! :-( |

Oh no! The largest fish store in Sac. And the oldest I think. |
I'm gonna ask tomorrow. I will let you know. Ever been to O Street Aquarium? I like them too! |
Yes, I've been to O Street. Nice store. I think JoJo's is becoming my favorite though. Nice quality fish and they have all their tanks individually filtered so no passing of disease from tank to tank. |
