Red Shrimp Fry! What to feed?
So today my female guppy gave birth to a dozen fry. I ran errands for a while and when I looked in the tank, there was only 1 left.:shock2: So automatically assuming they got sucked up into my filter, I rinse my filter and cartridge out. Lo and Behold, there were all my fry accounted for.:-D
But looking into the bucket, I was able to see little specs moving around. I look closer and they were red shrimp fry!
I dumped the entire bucket, fry and all into my fry tank I have set up. The fry I have no problem feeding because I've been going through fry cycles with all my females for a while now.
My only question is what do I feed my red shrimp fry? All my grown shrimp in my community tank always eat food flakes left over from my regular fish, would my red shrimp fry do the same?
Do you think it is safe for my shrimp fry to be in the same tank as the guppy fry? I don't want the guppy fry thinking that they're a meal when they get bigger than the shrimp.
Any help is much appreciated!
The shrimp fry with eat anything put in the tank ,
i have over 100 red shrimp and i have babys evry few weeks
if you have cherry shrimp, you have baby cherry shrimp. They come close to breeding faster then guppies.
That's awesome. Thanks guys!
I guess that shows you learn something everyday. :-)
The shrimp fry will be eaten without hiding places, but if your livebearer fry are surviving, your shrimp fry should be fine. (as long as you're not trying to mass-produce)
Well I have a 10 gallon tank I have constantly cycling that I put fry in. I have three females in my community tank that spit fry out roughly every month. Once the fry are born, I place them into the 10 gallon tank where I let them grow for a couple of weeks before deciding what I want to do to them (give away, add to community, etc.).
It just so happened that I found shrimp fry in my filter and when they were in the bucket with the guppy fry, I just dumped them into the cycled 10 gallon. My main question is do you think the guppy fry would eat the red shrimp fry if they are in the same tank together.
