Algae growing on milfoil? How to trim watersprite?

Hi, Ive got two questions. Ive got some milfoil growing in my 26gal and there appears to be some sort of algae growing on the leaves of it. There is also a bit on the tips of my hairgrass as well. Ive tried to dust it off and even wipe it off with my fingers but nothing is happening. It gives the plant a dark appearance. The leaves appear way darker than the other leaves, which are all green. There is a picture below but you may not be able to see it clearly. I also have watersprite planted in the substrate and it is growing extremely well and is already covering around 3/4 of the surface. How should I trim it from the main plant? Should I just cut off the top around the ehight i want it? I dont really want to uproot it and break off a whole stem. Thanks for any help.

I can answer your question about the water sprite. You do not have to uproot it. Just cut to the height you'd like it and replant the top.
