i have a 40 gal trop. community tankwith a dwarf gourami, 6 platies, and 4 danios. i just added the platies todayand the dannys have nipped at them all day! i am on the verge of just giving them away or selling them.
ive heard that they are less agressive in larger numbers but i think that would add to th problem! help!!!!!:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(
There is no magic cure for nipping. Adding more danios will probably help, but danios are a cold water fish. In my experience they do better around 70-73 degrees. I would first try to make sure your tanks is around 73-74 degrees (an expectable temp for all 3 types of fish) and see if that helps. If that doesn't help and you don't want to add more fish I would just return them. Around here danios go for about $1.50 or $2.00 so I doubt you will be able to sell them.
my water is at 74 degrees so thats not the issue. actually the danios have settled down i think they just got nervous with the guests. are platies shy fish?
I had major problems with my danios nipping my platies and guppies.
I was skeptical about purchasing more because I was afraid it would only make the problem worse but I finally gave in and bought more.
I now have 6 and they are very energetic and chase each other around and do NOT bother my other fish anymore.
in fact, i've seen my male guppy chasing THEM aggressively.
my advice would be to get a school of at least 6 or more to keep aggression down.
sadly two died already. the other two are actually very friendly now and i dont have a problem
