filter floss
 

Hi - I bought some "filter floss" - I hope... it's a substance that's to be used primarily to stuff sleeping bags and pillows, comforters etc... It's made of polyester and is hypo-allergenic and mildew resistant. Is this safe to use? I want to be sure before I do anything dumb...

I buy polyester batting at Walmart by the bag full and use it in canister filters and HOB filters without issues thus far.
It does sometimes find it's way onto impeller of filters if not careful , but checking the impeller when you clean it will alert you if this indeed happens.

I also use the polyster batting from Walmart but it's not the fluffy stuffing type. It comes in a roll and I cut it to size to fit into the media baskets I have for my Marineland Penguin series filters. This one roll has lasted me over 2 years. I just rinse in tank water at each water change and reuse. About every couple months I'll change it out for fresh stuff. It works great.

dont use this kind!!! as others have said use regular poly batting.. the chemical that is used to make things mildew resistant will leach into your water and kill your fish
