Cichlids in a 55g tank
I need info on how many african cichlids can i keep in a 55g tank????:-d
Depends on the which africans you are talking about. Mbunas can be kept in much higher numbers than for example large Frontosa
I have mbunas - 4 ... I want to add more of the same to my tank but I want to be sure if there's a limit to how many I can keep
I have seen 20-30 Mbunas in a 55 be just fine. Mbunas are generally overstocked to help spread out aggression, something you will need to consider when stocking. Depending on which Mbunas you are stocking you will want to follow 2 general rules, 1) 1:3 male:female ratio is preferred for most species and 2) always stock the least aggressive species first when at all possible. The first rule helps ensure a male doesn't harass a single female excessively and the second allow the less aggressive fish to establish their territory before the more aggressive fish arrive (ie. Yellow labs go in before Ps. Minutus) Hope this helps.
Perfect! thanks so much for the help!! :)
