Black patch http://www.fishforum.com/userpix/1939_earyh_2.jpghttp://www.fishforum.com/userpix/1939_earg_1.jpg what you look at is a female red swordtail molly. it has a black patch in its rear belly and its been growing for 2 months. i believed it was pregnant, but i dont think it lasts that long,does it? its been pretty happy, does not act out of the ordinary. if you can make out my horrible cam pics, than i would be greatful if you would identify it. its tank mates(black swordtail(male),blue+opaline gouramis) are fine, and water levels are ok.Ph 7.0. ammonia,nitrites, nitrates are at 0. thanks!!! :D |
It does look gravid to me but two months is indeed long. Have you tried green peas? Constipation cannot be ruled out just yet. Hope it won't have protrusion of scales and bulging eyes if dropsy is suspected. What test kit are you using? Is it liquid or test strips? Are those plants in the pictures live? Zero nitrates sounded unusual unless you have several plants that then use nitrates too heavily. |
the plants are real. the one to the left is a broad leaf amazon sword(huge) and several cuttings. i use red sea liquid test kits(never EVER touch t-strips :wink: ) but yeah, she goes potty regularly, i dont believe constipation is a problem.no bulgy eyes or rising scales either. do you think if i place her in a breeder it will help? she is getting a bit on the heavy side. maybe a big load of fry? |
If that breeder is the one designed for the females to drop their fry without letting them prey on the fry, it will not work. Female swordtails are big and are easily stressed. A tank with plenty of plants will help more than the breeder trap. |
my female sword always has the gravid spot, whether prg or not, i think its just her insides! i think its normal |
does it posses a big tummy too? |
