Are Platys suitable for a 10 gallon tank?
I have heard lots of people say that platys aren't suitable for a 10g tank, and I have heard lots of people that have said they are suitable. I just want to know a reasonable percentage of the members who believe that platys are or aren't suitable.
(let me see if I can get a poll up)

The min tank size for them is 10 gallons I promise.
Your platies will appreciate a tank with live plants on the sides and back, as they may pick at them to supplement their diets. Also Provide good lighting and lots of open area in the center for swimming. They do not do well with lots of water movement so less powerful filtration will better suit them. They are really hardy tho just get one male to several females and you will have no issues.
keep in mind max size is 2.5 inches so thats max 6 of them with 30% water change per week :).
The only reason I would think they wouldn't be suitable for a 10 gallon is the female might not have enough room to hide from the males, or the fact they are livebearers and reproduce like crazy. But in my opinion if you give them enough hiding spots and keep the population down they should be fine.

I said yes to me. Since 10 gallons is fairy small I highly recommend getting a single species tank( Male or Female. Just look out for any nippy behavior toward each other.). It will save you for going to the pet store every month. =D Unless you want to keep platies that were born in your tank( Which I recommend doing too if you want to bred them.

Cool. I had heard from some members that they aren't suitable because they are too messy to be kept in a 10 gallon tank.

Truly it depends on the amount you want to keep. 3 or less would be fine, any more would be a no, and don't even start with the fry..... So I don't know what I will put.
