Transferring Scathophagus (Scat) from fresh to salt water
I have recently bought a Red Scat from my local fish supplier. It is currently living in fresh water (quite happily) and I have been told that it live in both fresh or salt water since it is a brackish water species. I would like to transfer him into my saltwater tank but I'm not sure how to do this. Would it adjust to the different water conditions quite easily? or should I gradually add salt into the current tank (which he lives in by himself) until it reaches the levels of the saltwater tank?
Increase salinity level gradually as they mature. Adults are purely saltwater species but moved to estuarines to spawn hence the juveniles thrive in freshwater conditions. I had them ages ago as juveniles and they are commonly sold for food fish as adults.
I moved your thread. Scats are classified as brackish water species.:)
How much salt should I add and how often?
