hi, noobie to the forum. just got a new pictus cat from petsmart n last two days he has been swimming top of tank or tucked behind the siphon of my whisper power filter. when i first got him i saw him nibbling on some food first half hour i put him in. now he just stays on top of water. is that normal in the begining? n i havnt seen him eat ever since..? :(
he is in a 30g community tank by the way

Welcome to TFK. How long has your tank been set up? What other fish are in the tank besides the Pictus? Are you able to post your water parameters? Pictus are actually a shoaling catfish and prefer to be in the company of others, especially when they are juveniles.
That being said, I have a solo Pictus (I've had him for years) and he has a nice cave that he can hide in all day long, so that keeps him happy. Pictus are nocturnal fish and without a place to hide during the day that would explain why he's tucked behind the siphon, and I would consider that normal behahior for a stressed fish looking for somewhere to hide. When you say "on top of the water", do you mean he's swimming along the top?? Give us as much info on your tank as you can and let's see if we can figure out what is wrong with your pictus.
