Guppies' behaviour

Does it mean that guppies are sick if they occasionally rub or hit their bellies against ground or plants?

not that i know of,however i would keep a close
eye on them, and if they continue to do it,
then you may have to look at a possible cause.
keep up the maintainance of the tank,
and as said before, keep an eye on them.
can you post what your water stats are ?
let us know how things continue.

Thanks for answering. The water is fine, although hard. The tank is new but thoroughly cycled for more than a week. The guppies came from a smaller tank and I cannot say they were altogether healthy. That's why I am worried.

That behavior is called flashing. It means they itch. Which may mean nothing or it may mean an onset of ich or it may be a problem with the water. It's not a problem unless they do it a lot. Now, I understand that is of limited utility. I mean, what's a lot? Is it more than a bunch? But think about it, how many times a day do you scratch yourself? I mean, I am going into a paraoxysm of scratching just thinking about all the little itches that are mostly below the threshold of perception unless you're thinking about them. Same deal with fish; they itch; they scratch; and it's OK. Now compare that to a case of hives or poison ivy or chicken pox. How mutch itching do you do then? Not so much because you know it's bad for you and you have self control, but fish don't have self control.
