Can some one tell me!!!!!
how can i stop my guppies from dying???
is it cus my tank is not heated??? or need help of how take care of feeder guppies..
Ok, first off I do believe you need a heater for guppies. What's the temp in the tank?
Secondly, is the tank cycled? How big is it? How many guppies? What are the water parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, etc.)?
Cycling is basically the process of accumulating beneficial bacteria that break down ammonia and nitrites which are poisonous to fish.Does the tank have a filter?
Here is a link about cycling: http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/f...m-cycle-38617/
And here is the profile for guppies: Guppy (Poecilia reticulata) Profile
Read carefully through both of those as it will greatly help your situation!
You should think about getting a betta or some shrimp or a couple dwarf frogs instead... I don't think 1 gallon is acceptable for guppies.
Thanks for the post Kazzy.i know what cycling was but didnt know what to call it. when i use to do it in my other tank not this one. btw i learned a lot from that link.
Dan, while I would agree with you, he did call them feeder guppies. I doubt he plans them living past a few meal times as such.
But yes, even with feeders, I would recommend dishing out $50 and get a five to ten gallon tank (PETCO is doing their $1 per gallon special again), and set up the guppy tank properly, with heater, levels tested and proper filtration. After all, even with feeder's, if they get sick and weak, whatever they have will be turned over to whoever ends up eating them.
What Maceman said...
Stress can induce a plethora of different diseases and illnesses to the fish, which in turn, if you are feeding the guppies to other fish, will be transferred over to them. Why not set up a little planted 10 gallon and maybe have a go at breeding the guppies yourself? Would be a pretty little tank to look at, and would produce free food for your other fish.
sorry to respond late... actually i dont like the idea having feeder guppies as acutaly feeding them. you know i can feed them dead, so why would it matter? i dont want to feed them, just want them to grow and breed. i never really actually bread a fish before so yea.. i would agree with kazzy in this situation.
