Hi everyone!! For my up coming 55gal I like to keep a rubberlip pleco and I'm getting mixed info. Petsmart.com says that it grows to be 10". While some sites say they won't grow to be over 6". I would love to get the right info from people who know.
A lot of sites contradict themselves. From what I understand they stay on the small side, not 10".
I have never heard of a rubberlip getting to 10", 6" sounds a little more like what I have seen.
Thanks for the help!
from what i understand they rarely exceed 4 1/2".i have a had a couple for years and as far as i can tell they are slow growers as well.
I've had mine for over a year now. He's about 4 - 5"
I had a spotted rubberlip (different than the regular ones) that maxed out at about 3". He was a really good-looking fish, too.
So what I'm hearing is that they are around 4"-6" range and they're slow growers. Ostara can you show a a pic of one. Petsmart only carries the plain, but I may be able to order the spotted at my LFS.
Actually Petsmart frequently gets the spotted ones mixed in with the regular ones, you just have to keep an eye out. From what I understand there are several very similar species, so they may also get some that really do get 10"... who knows. This is the one that I had, picked out from a tank of rubbernoses that looked like this.
Oh, really maybe I'll lucky up and find one.
