Discus "Myth or Fact"
Can people tell me if this is true:
"discus like other fish, secrete a hormone into the water that inhibits their growth. This allows the fish to stay appropriately sized for the volume of water it is contained in".
Some articles say its false others say its true???
I can't comment on that as I have not seen any evidence or proof that this could be true. I can only say that it is best to provide your fish with plenty of space, plenty of water changes and plenty of food without risk of overfeeding.
myth all around.
Personally I think the claim is pretty silly, fish weren't meant for fish tanks, they were wild animals we turned into pets. Even if they did release a hormone that stunted their grow, how in the world could it possibly be healthy for them? Their genetics determine their growth potential.
