Pond snail have bad shells

The pond snails in my tank (or whatever snails hitched a ride on my plants) have really bad shells. When I first got my plants 3-4 months ago there were plenty of snails, then my zebra loaches ate them all. I usually pick empty shells out but sometimes i leave them in there. The loaches like playing soccer with them.

Well I went about a month with like little to no snails, now all of a sudden they are back. I dont mind at all, but I noticed their shells look very bad. They are white (while before they were much darker) and they do not look smooth at all. I am wondering if this means there is something wrong with my water? I can try to post a pic if needed.

I know baby snails of some species have white and sometimes clear shells. If they are young I think they might darken up as they get older (if the loaches let them get older). If they are fully grown snails then I have no idea.
