Help with setting up my new fish tank.
Hi everyone,
needed some help with setting up my new fish tank in which i am thinking of keeping discus fishes and probably going to breed them in the future, have read somethings about it on some of the forums, but am going to stick right now to just growing and keeping them for now.

my tank size that i am planning to get is 48"x20"x20" (Lxbxh). The thing which i am confused is about what size or type of filter i should get, i have selected ehim classic 2215 or 2217, and also what find of substrate to put in it, as i know that discus need very clean water.

Good luck with discus. They are very demanding. You have to do alot of water changes and such to keep them in good shape. unless you have some experience I wouldn't reccomend them. I would get the biggest filter you can. Any substrate will work. You just need to wash it first. Especially if you want sand.

Welcome to TFK!!! i would start with readin the profile for these fish and get a better idea of what they need.... then move from there.. another few first steps would be to test your water and see if its suitable for them and read a few articles on tanks here and here
this of course assuming that you are fairly new to fish keeping....

Well have read loads about it but the only one thing that i found comman was that they require very good and clean water which is the biggest challenge for me now cause we have very high and low temps, like now in the winters it almost 4 - 5 degrees Celsius, so will have to make some arrangement for the water changes and that i don't have to much fluctuations in the tank water and the temp.

if you have a heater in the tank and temp match off the tap it should not be that much of a challenge to keep things stable.. when doing water changes you should only be doing about 25% per week..

well what i have read over various forums and heard from people who have been keeping discuses for a long time, that they do water changes almost every day(10%) or every alternate day (25%), but i guess its what is convenient for me.. :s?
