Empty 5gal Needs...Something!

Hi, I have a 5gal Eclipse aquarium in which we had a betta who has since died. The tank is now empty.

What fun things can we do with such a small tank?

A school of White Moutains would be beautiful and easy in that tank.

With all do respect white clouds would put the tank to shame. If i remember correctly the eclipse has lights and heating wich would both be useless in a white cloud tank(although if you dont mind, go for it). A shrimp tank or snail tank could be awsome. You could plant nice an dheavy and then get some nano fish like pheonix rasys or you could get some celestial pearl danio.

Try some dwarf shrimps. Go with a few Ghost shrimps if you have never kept them as the Red cherry shrimps are expensive ane the Ghost shrimps are cheap. I think Walmart and Petsmart and Petco have them for about 30 cents each. You can add a few endlers as they are smaller in size then guppies and do well in a small tank that size. Sometimes endlers are sold as feeder fish. Some aquarium stores sale them.I would suggest getting all males as they are pretty and the females are plain and they breed like rabbits so you do not want to get a male and female as a 5 gal. would be to small to raise a bunch of babies. You can also maybe just get a pair of cory catfish no shrimps or endlers. I like the combo of shrimps and endlers as I have a 3 gal. bowfront next to my computer that I keep shrimps and endlers in and it is perfect as long as you do not get to many and overstock. I do 20% water changes at the end of each week to keep the water qty. good.

You can get red cherries for about $1 each and 15 or so is a good start. The look amazing and have very interesting behavior.

In all my many years in this hobby, my 10 gallon White Cloud display was one of the most enjoyable of the smaller sized tanks that I've maintained. I've often felt that the only people who don't respect White Clouds are the people who haven't kept White Clouds. And yes, I agree that live plants would complete the display.

I love white clouds, mine are in my 30(they are getting a 10 for christmas) and i agree they look good, in a 5 they dont have room to have a large school and space to be the little acrobats that they are. CPD would look nice and fit better though.

Dwarf corys are the best for a small tank that size if you can find them. Yeah Ghost shrimp or Red Cherry shrimps might be better for a small tank that size. Just remember to cover the intake to your filter so they do not get sucked into the filter. visit Planet Inverts Home .:. Freshwater Aquarium Shrimp, Crystal Red Shrimp, Red Cherry Shrimp, Crayfish and more. The only thing about keeping shrimps is they are sensitive to bad water qty. so you have to keep up with your water changes.
