Pregnant guppy mysterious death I had 3 guppies that were pregnant 2 more along than the other 3rd but anyways. I bought a net breeder and I was switching the 2 more pregnant ones in and out of there hoping that one of them would give birth in it. This never happened but I did find 1 little guppy fry in the big tank which means that one of them gave birth outside the net breeder. This morning I woke up and I found that 1 of my pregnant guppies was dead :( I checked the water and its pretty much perfect I just did a water change 2 days ago and it read 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and a little bit of nitrate. Would anyone know why she died? No one was in the net breeder while this happened. It hasn't been working very well and I haven't really been using it much. |
I've been told the nets stress the fish out more than anything, and it's best to just let them birth naturally in the tank, then catch the babies when you see them. I had issues like that with my platy's and molly's and a few died, I believe due to stress from the breeder. I got rid of the breeder...and voila....babies!! I'm no expert though and maybe someone could help you that has a little more experience then me. Good luck! |
+1. Nets are stressful. Just let it give birth in the tank. Personally, I never move the fry. I still have a million (give or take a couple) guppies in my 10 gallon... I started with 3 a year or two ago. |
redchigh how many tanks do u have? cuz i got a ten gallon too n i got 9 guppies in there and 10 fry in a 2 gallon |
it's because the guppy that died was the one to give birth. i'v had 10 guppys go the same way |
