what pleco do i have?

Hello

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but we bought a large pleco last week, he/she is around a foot long (called Elvis) but when he was sold to us the fish shop said that he was just a "normal plec" and that he was similar to a sailfin pleco but it started with an H and he couldn't remember the name... kind of odd as he had had it for years.. but anyway.... am trying to find out some more information on him (food etc) but without the name its difficult as they all seem to vary! I will try and upload a picture of him if he ever moves out of his rock hiding place! lol.... does anyone know of the name it could ne beginning with an H?

Thanks in advance

The term "common pleco" is used for a variety of different species but one of them that starts with "H" is Hypostomus Plecostamus. Maybe google the name and see if it looks like the one you have.

What jeaninel said is correct. The pleco most commonly sold as a "common pleco" is a trinidad pleco and they look like this.

Most larger plecos eat mostly veggies, including algae and algae wafers, but you can also feed the fresh veggies like cucumber, zucchini, and yams. They will also eat any fish food scraps that fall to the bottom of the tank.
