Clippings, Extras, redoing tank whatever
If you have to trim your plants, have extras from offshoots or have plants you just want to trade for new ones, list them in the classifieds section. This is a great way to get new plants, share the wealth with clippings and get some of those harder to find specimens or just be bale to get some good specimens from fellow club members.
A couple bucks for them isn't too much to ask, shipping needs to be priority USPS mail which starts at $4.06 for most packages. Wrap the plants in paper towels and wet them with tank water. Put them in zip lock bags, the good ones and pack with newspaper or something to keep them from sliding around voila, new plants for someone and some more in the mail for you.
Most only charge for shipping so you can get a lot of plants for $8.10 USPS priority mail. More than I care to think about. :D
this is a good idea.
There has to be those out there that want to get plants for cheap and also those that have lots of trimming form their overgrown tanks so why not?
I know, there is always the chance that you get stiffed on a trade. So how about this:
If I can get a forum for Barter Trade, would it help to have some kind of ability to do feedback for those that do trade? If you don't recieve the plants or don't recieve payment you could always leave feedback saying so. But at the same time you would want to leave positive feedback for those that do send nice plants and do pay.
Would this help to eleviate the reluctance to do a barter trade thing for plants?
you have my vote! i am ready to send out some nice amazon sword plants!!
if anyones after hornwort,or water cress i have these in silly amounts :D
what about international trades/purchases?
will it be limited to within the country only?
because an overnight to another country will be kind of pricey
Well that is up to the shipper and buyer. Pricey is not the word for it though as I have recieved plants from someone in Canada to the US and it cost $26 to ship them.
Yep, up to both seller and buyer but I think it would depend on the plant really.
If it's a common plant that's easy to get a hold of, probably silly to ship internationally, but other plants are harder to get and so folk would be more interested in paying a lot for shipping. I, for example, can't get java moss anywhere, though it doesn't matter now if you read my "I'm sad" post, but if I still wanted it, I would be willing to pay more for shipping kinda thing.
Well I got me second set of plant in two days today and let me tell you it was well worth the $9.20 to get them. My LFS never has them and for 5 species it would have likely cost me more than that for the plants anyway and shipping would be even more if I bought them online.
Aslo, as for international shipping, if the quantity is worth it then why not? When I was shipped the plants from Canada I got 11 species and the amounts were enough to fill both of my 10 gallon tanks so that is another thing to think about when bartering.
Just be sure to check local regulations for plants and make sure they are legal to ship.
