Help for planting.
Hey , i just bought a 3g tank in which i would be keeping a male betta. I also wanted to plant few plants in order to make the environment closer to Bettas natural habbitat , so can you please suggest some plants ?
I was thinking of floating plants, can the floating plants cause any harmful to Bettas?
Well bettas come from rice patties but I dont think you want to grow rice...
Plants that work well for Bettas in my experience are small swords, mosses, anubias, and moss balls (cladophora).
Floating plants will be fine for a betta but make sure you keep an area clean so the betta can breathe air.
a good setup for bettas (male an female) is a Indonesian stream like environment.
Blyxa Echinosperma (Giant Jap Rush)
Crypt Moehlmanii (Moehlman cyrpt lol)
Java Fern/ Java Moss
Rotala Wallichi (Whorly Rotala)
These all depend on lighting nutrients and size of tank.. just a list to examine
Good suggestions already. Floating plants are ideal with all anabantids; they occur in waters thick with floating vegetation (swamps, ponds) and enjoy browsing the dangling roots for food. Obviously they use floating plants for building bubblenests, so another indication of the presence of floating plants in their habitat. As long as they can reach the surface between plants, they will be fine. I find Ceratopteris cornuta an ideal floating plant in anabantid tanks; check out the profile (click on the shade name).
