Why so lethargic??
So the occupants in my 29 gal seem a bit lethargic. Not all of them, just a couple of the platy's.
For a breakdown I have
3 ghost shrimp
Water stats as of 12/12/10:
Temp: 79 (that was checked by 2 thermometers to confirm accuracy)
I use Aqua Safe when doing their weekly water change.
I have all real plants which grow quite quick.
One Platy seems to have some "issues" For example she darts around kind of spastic like when it's feeding time, and the rest of the day she's in "her castle." I dont have any pics of her currently cuz she's always hiding. Oh, she's been doing this for about 4-6 months now.
The other thing I noticed is I have 1 platy that just chills up in the corner with her anal fin clamped. It's been going on for about 3-4 days now. She's the all orange one. All of them eat and are slightly plump. I just dont know what's happening and I'm stressing out now.
Here are some pics so you can have a slight idea of what's going on.
its your ph (or as far as I can tell its the only thing that sticks out at me)
it should really be 7.0 to 8.0 for platties or any of the livebearers .... but tank bred fish are usually pretty easy as long as its not extreme...... have your platties been breeding in your tank?
Your corries should thrive in your ph though.
They've bred a ton! Actually the 2 smallest platy's in the tank are babies of one of the big ones. I only have 6 females now, I gave away all of the male offspring to avoid inbreeding
Thanks for the compliment!!!!
wow theyve grown alot since i remember! u got urself one pregnant female there with the white tube thing..she shud drop sooon..have ur cories bred at all?
So, I come downstairs this morning and all is well in my tank. Go figure! No more clamped anal fins and no more hiding. It's so weird how they act sometimes. Maybe it was just her "time of the month" haha
They have grown a ton!! It's so fun to watch! The cory's have not breed yet, but that's ok.
lol glad thats over! lol i thot u were gonnas ay she gave birth lol..maybe shes getting rdy to
It seems to be a somewhat normal occurrence for platies to act "nervous, Shy, hiding whatever you want to call it"
I don't really know what causes it, One day their fine then the next their all chicken chits acting,
I've read about it in some live bearer books as well. So it's definitely not uncommon to see especially in platies.,
6 is a lowwww ph for Platys. As others have said 7 - 8 is best. They will survive but not thrive at 6.
