another death?

i lost my baby :(:(:( had him for 2 years. as u may have read in my sudden deaths post, ive been having a few problems. my pleco, Zeberdee, gave up on sunday. i didnt think there was any signs, but wen i checked him over, he had a huge white patch on his underside like an ulcer, also 2 greeny patches. now i have now noticed an outbreak of ich. i got hold of some melafix, will this help? i can do salt and upping temp due to goldfish. im wondering if this is the route of all my probs? could he have been a carrier? i am treating all tanks as he was resident in both tanks at some stage.
R.I.P Zeberdee :(:(:(:(

I'm really sorry to hear that lioness - he's lovely!

I don't know if melafix will clear up white spot or not, when I had it I used protazin and it worked a treat but read the instructions very carefully because it's not suitable for some fish, and others need a lower dose. I have also heard great things about formalin, but don't think it's available in Britain.

thanks julie, im truly upset! i nearly cried. melafix says that its safe for all fish ad doesnt say to lower the dose in special cases. the guy in pets at home, where i got it, said that in his experience its the best stuff?? and the guy also seemed to know his stuff about alot of other things too, i was impressed!!!!

I would be very surprised if Melafix can get rid of Ich. I used it, and not a lower dose either, and it did nothing for the Ich. I've never come across this in my research in almost a year... It might help with secondary problems that could overcome a fish fighting Ich, but I don't believe it has the ability to kill parasites.

I was able to use salt successfully, even with my neons and Otos, but you do have to be careful about how quickly you add it. Adding salt slowly, over the course of a day a more is usually ok for most fish, and I wouldn't go beyond 1-2 tsp / gallon.

I found my fish were far more stressed when I increased the heat, then due to the salt.

Are you sure it was ich? :/
