Can a weaker filter be used in a planted aquarium?

I just finished cycling my new 25 gallon and transferred everything from the 10 gallon over.
Here's my not so big issue... I don't like the noisy filter that came with the tank and want to use the filter from the 10 gallon instead. I've read that plants help filter the water but was wondering if they can help enough to allow me to use the smaller filter?
It is a fluval U1 (made for up to 15 gallons)

Any advice?
I have 5 plants and plenty of snails (that found their way into my 10 gallon on their own) joining my family of platties (two of which I bought, the rest were conceived in the 10 gallon...)

It depends.

If there are enough fast growing plants and the light/nutrients are balanced, definately.
(Check out my aquariums under my name. Most of them are filterless, and the one that has a filter only has it for oxygenation.)

Are they stem plants?
How big are they?

If the filter is established (and you didn't let the bacteria die off), then it should probably possibly will more than likely and could be fine.

Try it, and monitor the ammonia levels. If you get a spike, do a water change and buy some stem (or floating) plants. That's what I would do, anyway. :)

That's what I'm here for.
I have nothing else to do. :)
