Question about Nitrifying bacteria...

So I have been cycling my new 50 gallon tank and my test kit just showed that my nitrite is at .25 ppm. This is the first tank I've cycled so i'm pretty happy:-). My question is if I have to keep putting in flakes for ammonia. Will the bacteria die if it has no ammonia to convert?
Sorry for asking so many questions on here, I just want to make sure I'm doing it right.
Thanks,
-Ian

Yes, you keep up your ammonia source.
