I heard you couldn't use window cleaners like windex to clean the glass on the OUTSIDE of your tank because the it would leak through the glass and kill your tank. I don't remember glass being to porous. Sounds like BS to me. Anyone want to confirm this?

I've used it for the past couple of years with absolutely no problems. Just be careful none gets into the tank.

I spray it onto a piece of kitchen towel well away from the tank and then clean the glass with it.

I doubt it will "seap" in but with any spray type bottle there is always overspray that can wind up in the tank and kill your bacteria causing fish death. I never directly spray the tanks with windex I always spray the cloth and tyhen wipe with it and have never had a problem.

I now use baby wipes or some sort of cleaning wipe instead of a spray bottle and have not had a problem either.

So my vote on seeping is that it is bunk and is a matter of overspray that causes problems.

Of course you can use an ammonia cleaner on the outside of the tank...just make absolutely certain none gets inside.

I always spray the cleaner on the cloth I use...rather than on the glass itself...prevents any airbourne droplets from landing in the water...

No, glass an exceptionally resistant (non-reactive, non-corosive) chemical barrier, that's why it is used to hold very concentrated chemicals such as 0 pH acids and such... :lol:

Bunch of bunk. Always used it, always will. I don't spray it directly on the outside, I spray it on the towel first because I don't want the glass cleaner on the items around the tank, it really has nothing to do with the tank.

absorbant glass??...if anyone did make some it would be worth millions nope nothing here but the heady whiff of bull***t,ive used windex for years the only problem i can see is if some of the spray ends up in the water
