Snails - At it like rabbits ?

I've only had my tank for 6 weeks and I've got enough snails to feed a couple of skips. I was watching the fish the other day and it looked like the substrate was alive.... loads of snails ! They must have come in on a plant. Thing is, if there were this many on the plants I would have seen them, they must be reproducing at a rate of knots !

Are they a good or bad thing?

Do they eat algae?

It's not a good thing if they begin to infest your tank to the point where it endangers the other inhabitants.

If they get too out of hand, a couple of Khuli Loaches will remedy the problem quickly. Or Dwarf Puffers :D

I know larger loaches and botias are snail eaters, but I didn't think the kuhli loaches were. I didn't think they got large enough.

Neither did I, but after looking up differnt snail eating loaches it seems that they are excellent at it.

I just got a yoyo loach to eat snails, and It's a really cool looking/fun fish to watch! We'll see how good of a fish it is when he gets bigger though...
