Urgent help required
hi, here is the problem.
I live in mallorca and as you know a lot of people are leaving the island due to money problems, a friend of a friend has just left leaving behind a tank with an assortment of tropical fish. Apparently the tank is in awful condition with filthy water and the fish have just been left to die hence taking it in. I was just wondering what the steps would be to rectify the problem, i have a little experience with a smaller tank in britain.... after looking at some websites would the best option be a half or 3 quarter water change? with appropriate chemicals, i understand it is imperative to keep the cycle of the tank.... i understand it is a big responsibility and im looking forward to it just hope i can save these little guys. any help would be greatly appreciated im getting the tank in about 24 hours.
It's hard to say exactly without knowing what fish are in the tank, how bad the water is and what kind of filtration is on the tank, but I would start with a 70% water change. If the water is that bad I would probably look at the filtration next. You also should get a water testing kit. I don't know what is available near you, but I use the API Freshwater Master Test kit. You will then want to test for pretty much everything the kit is capable of testing for, most importantly ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and PH. Once you have those numbers we can give you some more advice.
ok thanks, as soon as i have the information iŽll relay it on to you guys
