think i need some help
well, first of all thank you for this forum. i am new to it. and i've been lurking over the past few weeks or so.
I inherited a 30 gallon long tank. I did a good job of cleaning it up using water and vinegar. So after letting it completely dry out over the past week I went to the fish store today to get supplies.
I purchased an aqueon quiet flow 30 filter (got the one for a 45 gallon tank), got the heater. I did a lot of reading on doing a planted aquarium. I purchased for gravel - a mix of Bio-Activ activ flora (20 lbs) and two 5 pounds of Carib Sea Super Natural. Earlier, I placed the gravel into the tank and then carefully as I could fill it up
I don't think I did that great of a job b/c my tank now is a very cloudy mess. I turned my heater and filter on.
Should I keep the filter on or shut it off so everything can settle? Any advice? Anything stand out as a huge mistake? I hope not. I really believe I did a lot of reading before pursuing this.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
edit - i turned off my filter. i thought it made more sense.
i just tested the ph and it is above 7.6.
Run the filter to clear up the water.
run the filter? wouldn't the sand clog up the motor in the filter? the sand won't damage my filter?
the tank is still very cloudy. there hasn't been any improvement.
Most of the stuff that is making the water cloudy is dirt, not sand particles.
