Grrrrr!! No liquid ferts. to be found
Is there anyting I can do until I get my shipment of Seachem Flourish for my tank? Just got my order of live plants Wed. and planted my tank that afternoon. I've been to every pet store in the area and there's nothing in the way of a decent fert. for the plants. They're already looking a little rough around the edges.
I placed an order this morning for Seachem flourish and root tabs but they won't be here until next week. How can I help my plants stay alive until then?
I took the airstone out of the tank before planting. Substrate is very fine and pea-size gravel. I added the very fine gravel to help the roots attach better. Temp. is 77, 40w T-12 lighting (I purchased low to mid-light plants). All water params were great prior to planting - all zero with nitrates around 15 or so. Haven't tested yet today but will do that this afternoon.
Thanks in advance.
I wouldn't worry for one week. Plants can manage, they may look a bit more scruffy, but it is unlikely the roots will die and new leaves should appear when things are stable. The roughness you now see is most likely the stress of shipping and transplanting. I have bought plants like some swords that in the store had one half-missing leaf and no others, and after a couple weeks new leaves were rampant.
You will see nitrates lower once the plants are using ammonia/ammonium.
Thanks Byron. I'll stop worrying for a bit :)
