Urgent Help Discus Problems
Last Tuesday i got 4 discus (1x 3 inche and 3x 2 inch). The small Discus are fine. But the large discus have cloudy eyes and 2 white dots on the mouth. What can I do? What is the problem?
Small discus fine (no cloudy eyes and no white spots on mouth)
Sick Discus with Cloudy eyes and white spots on mouth (1 spot on left and another on the right)
it could be ick try reaserch that and test the water paramaters hugh amoni levels sometimes lead to these types of problems
Would move the fish to quarantine tank if possible ,and treat with Anti-parasite medication (PraziPro) or Seachem (Paraguard) as per directions. (more is not better).
Would perform daily 30 percent water changes for a week or two.
Would see that water parameter's are zero for ammonia and nitrites, and nitrates no higher than 20 ppm.
Would see that temp is between 82 and 84 degrees F (raise slowly if needed).
Above is what I would do were they my fish.
Is always wise to quarantine new fish before introducing them to main tank. Placing them in smaller quarantine tank makes medicating if necessary ,cheaper (less medication) ,and water changes are easier (less water).
Eye's could have been damaged, scraped, when fish were netted. Clean water and lot's of it should always be first line of defense to prevent infection's/bacteria from developing.
White growth looks to me to be parasitic , and afore medications should prove beneficial. If fish are eating, then mixing medication with foods can be best approach but often new fish will refuse foods for first few day's to a week and should this be the case,,treating the Water becomes necessary.
Variety of foods rich in protein are helpful for growth of young Discus, and young Discus should be fed three to four Small feedigs each day taking care to remove any uneaten foods within 30 min of feedings in my view /expierience.
