Hi Yall!

Hey everybody,

New to the forum and wanted to introduce myself. You've got a Texas boy on your hands. I've had fish since before I was born and have always loved them. I think it started with an oscar, pleco and a few tinfoil barbs back in '87. I started my own tank back in high school and kept fish all through college. Man did my hall director love having a 29g tall in the top floor of the dorm, SARCASM! Anyway, I now have three tanks.
In order from smallest to largest:
2.5g lightly planted. Stock: Guppies between 6 and 40 depending on whether I have a drop or not. At the first sign that a "cow" is dropping I move her to my...
10g also lightly planted. Stock: Guppy fry, Cichlid fry, small gourami. Used as a grow out tank.
Which brings me to:
55g Stock: 4 small Jack Dempseys, an oscar, also small, 19 Buenos Aires tetras, two medium-sized clown loaches and a siamese algae eater. This is my show tank, and actually why I just joined the forum. I came home from work today (currently PetSmart) to an ich infection. I think some feeders came in with it but treatment has started and I'm going to kill those little parasites with extreme prejudice.
Hopefully once the infestation is taken care of, I will get some pictures up. Anyway welcome to the forum to me and I look forward to spending some time with everyone.

It just dawned on my that you said you have 6 - 40 guppies at one time in a 2.5 gallon tank

You must change the water daily?? I understand that it goes up after 6 depending on whether fry are dropped but still - yikes!!

Yeah, it is a hard yank to keep up. I do a small water change almost daily. It's not too bad because it is right next to a sink. I have quite a few plants in it which help a lot. Right now there are six guppys in it, only one of which is fully grown. I try make sure the drops go in the ten gallon but sometimes I get the drops while asleep or at work. That is why I said 40. However, 30 fry are not equal to even one fully grown guppy. I will never have an overpopulated guppy tank, the big fish love to eat them too much. Some may see feeding them to others as cruel, but I look at it as the natural order of things. plus I know they are not going to infect my fish with disease. I would rather see a fish go in a matter of seconds or less rather than die over days or weeks or longer due to poor fishkeeping, starvation or disease. If you fit in my mouth, I'm going to eat you. Godda love fish.
