marineland emperor 400b filter....

I just bought a used tank set up that came with the above filter.

I was just googling how it worked/what I needed for it ect and just noticed that the bio wheels were not included.

Wondering if I can substitute something else? bio balls or just media that stays in the filter chamber...

its only for a 55 gallon so its going to be over filtered anyways....

Thoughts?

Sadly, you would need the biowheel for the filter. It's part of the biological filtration, without it you wouldn't be able to have the good bacteria that would neutralize ammonia and nitrites. They should sell replacement wheels in your LFS or a pet store like Petco or Petsmart.
