DIY C02 gone wrong
Started my DIY C02 thing today. 1 cup of sugar, 1 tsp of sugar and warmish water.
Came home and my tank was cloudy with the culture coming up the tube into the tank. It started off with bubbles, that must have stopped whilst i was gone.
Can anyone shed any light?
u forgot baking soda ... and get tubing long enough that u can create a grease trap with it
It sounds like you put the water level too high in the bottle. Always leave a good 2-3 inches at the top to let it froth a little and to leave room so it doesn't get into the tubing. You can also use the "grease chamber" or a catch can system to prevent it from happening. Simply use a peanut butter jar or other pint sized jar with a plastic lid and drill two holes just smaller than the tubing in the lid. One side goes into the jar from mixture bottles and then the other side is sent to the tank. This catches anything that might get into the tube and prevents it from getting into the tank. Just make the inlet tube a little longer than the outlet. Make sure to get the threads of the catch jar sealed really well with that white thread tape.
Again, I never had to use them when I had mine setup. I left 2-3 inches at the top and never had the foam get higher than 1/2-1 inch. It takes a couple hours to get a good flow but prevents the problem of overflow into the tank. Oh and I never used anything in my mixtures like baking soda or anything less.
Also remember to use regular yeast and not fast rise.
make sure you hook up a check valve somewhere in the tubing as well ;)
