Update on my RT Discus & his eye

When it comes to fishkeeping it is wise to never under estimate the importance of patience and clean water! For anyone who had been following my thread on the awful eye injury and subsequent infection of my RT's eye here's an update. After being given the ok to introduce back into the display I decided to hold off a bit and continue with the HUGE water changes (every other day, 80%) The result has made me VERY happy. I didn't think the eye could get any better than it had, but it did. He now only has a slight cloudiness in part of the iris but the pupil is a nice dark black with no marring. He reacts when facing me sideways with that eye (good eye to the other side) so I'm sure he can see. Not sure on the accuracy of vision but he does have vision. He is eating so much better, just in the way he used to prior to the injury. I think I will go ahead and introduce him into the display in the next few days. Just shy of 60 days in QT, I'm glad I was able to be patient!

I had to share, as this makes me VERY happy.
I'm showing pics at its worst and as it looks today. I am thrilled. :-)

Looks great! So glad he healed nicely.

Thanks, Jeaninel! I'm still amazed by the result. I truly thought he was going to lose the eye.

I had faith in you. I knew he would heal ok, just took a little time and TLC. :-D

Kymmie,
I too thought the eye was possibly lost ,and am pleased that the fish has recovered much better than I would have expected.
While medications have their place and can be helpful,, Little in my view provides more benefit's than clean water.
It appears a combination of both has served you and the fish well. Bet you are resting easier

Yay! What a great job you did healing your fishy. I'm glad he recovered so nicely. Give yourself a big pat on the back - you deserve it.

I did use Furan-2 at the very onset of infection, but just for the two recommended rounds. The follow up was 50 days of good clean water. Yes, I'm resting much easier and my hair & nails are now growing back in. (Alot of hair pulling and nail biting on my part, lol)

Wow, it looks great! The first picture is so horrifying that I would definitely have thought he was going to lose the eye. It's wonderful that you were able to nurse him back to health, especially with clean water! Congrats! :-D

Yep! That's my little pigeonblood. He's only about two inches now and cute as a little button. :-)
