Amonia & Nitrite was "0" but now it's up...

All previous tests to last night were 0 for ammonia & nitrites, nitrates 10, ph always 7.6. (AZ tap water.)

But this evening the water was slightly cloudy so I tested it again, the results were: ammonia .50, nitrites .50, nitrates 10. I did a 25% water change tonight, treated with conditioner.

After the water change the ammonia & nitrites dropped by half, but are still at .25 each.

I did add some fish 2 days ago, and last night also tried a new frozen shrimp and probably overfed.

Do you think I should continue to change 25% of the water each day until ammonia & nitrites are back to 0, or ?

Thanks so much,

TropicAurora

Yes, Aurora.:) It never hurts to do a water change.:)

Thank you for your reply. Will do, then. My apologies for the "chemo" brain, lol, it's a side effect you can't dodge. Thanks for your patience.

It does sound like the tank is going through a mini cycle. Possibly because of the added, the extra food or maybe both.

Like Lupin said, keep up with the water changes so the ammonia nor nitrrites dwon't get high enough to harm the fish. Hopefully it is a mini cycle and less feeding along with the water changes will will get things back to normal.

Does the tank smell a bit off? It's possible that you overfeed, but it generally takes a bit to really get to this condition. Vacuuming the substrate is helpful to clean this up. Also look for deadspots in flow where food might get deposited. If you see anything that looks like food with white fuzz, that would be it.
