Phosphates Concerns with Crushed Coral / Limestone
I am looking to have a really stable high pH in my new African Cichlid setup and I am considering using crushed coral as a substrate as some others have done. I am also considering decorating with limestone. But here is the question...
Will these output a ton of phosphates? I am concerned constantly with algae (I hate it) and I just wonder if I am calling it on with the coral & limestone.
I have a phosphate reactor, will that be enough to keep them down? Any input is much appreciated.
I used crushed coral in my saltwater tanks before and they keep the PH at the right level, but never leached phosphates that I know of. BUt the limestone I have no knowledge in that. As for the algea you will have to clean the glass of it no matter what you do. It will be a part of a tank.
Most "Holy rock" is produced as a byproduct from mining of Edwards Plateau limestone for construction materials.
Surficial Edwards Plateau limestone deposits are prevalent in Central Texas and outcroppings can be observed in areas contiguous to West Texas.
I have never noted the presence of or water solubility from phosphate in "Holy rock".
The Edwards Plateau aquifer is substantially recharged via rainwater which traverses through Edwards Plateau limestone.
The calcium concentration in the Edwards Plateau aquifer is 80-120mg/l whereas the concentration of phosphate is typically not measurable.
