Newbie Question - maintaining temperature Hi, Just setting up my new tropical fish tank - got a Juwel Vision 180, and just letting it cycle Was wondering how you maintain temperature - ie how many hours do you put lights on at night, and does it affect the temperature much? Will fish mind temperature going up a degree or two in evening? |
depends on how intense is the light, how high it is about the water surface, how long it's on and whether the room has ventilation.best shot is to have a thermometer in the tank.my tank at room temp is 28 after the lights are on it will gradually go up to 30 at the top layer around 5 cm below the water line. |
Hi, I do have thermometer - temperature understandably goes up a degree or so by putting on lights each evening - i presume this poses no problem to fish? |
A degree or two is not much to worry about, I do wonder what bulb you are using, if incandescent these tend to put out more heat then light so you might look into a florescent bulb. |
yup thats true. my tank goes up and down 2 degrees everyday and the plants and fish are ok |
