Still no nitrites

Hi, I'm doing a fishless cycles and added a prawn to the tank about a week ago. My ammonia is really high (.5-.8) but I'm still not seeing any nitrites. When should I start to see my ammonia levels slack off and nitrites begin to rise? Thanks!

Try doing some small water changes daily and keep testing. I would think you'd see something soon.

Yea your right on that edge that nitrites start to show up, with in the next week they should show, remember it can take 6 weeks to fully cycle a tank, although most of the time its less.

Youll start to see the nitrite levels rise in just a very few short days.

Thanks for the input! My ammonia is through the roof now, 4+. Still no nitrites. I haven't done water changes, no fish and I was afraid to decrease the ammonia by too much.. Should I do a few smaller water changes to bring the ammonia down some? This is confusing:-?, but kinda fun, too:-). I feel like a mad scientist doing the water testing!

Just let it keep going by itself, no need for a water change, at this point there are only two things you should be doing; testing to see how far along you are and waiting :D
