need help with the number of of these fish...
just started cycling my 20 gallon long and was looking into picking out a group of compatible fish. I have two different groups in mind but just don't know how many of each would be the perfect amount for a 20 gallon.
Danios, Swordtails, Mollies, and Platies,Tetras such as (Black Skirt Tetras, Painted Tetras, Serpae Tetras, Red Eye Tetras, Black Neon Tetras, and Silver Tip Tetras)
Neon Tetras, Glowlight Tetras, Harlequin Rasboras, White Clouds, Fancy Guppies, Corydoras Catfish, Glass Fish, Honey Gouramis
You may already understand this, but as I can't tell, I will mention it. You can't have a mix of all those fish (either group) in one 20g tank. First, some of them are shoaling fish which means they must be kept in a small group of usually 6 or more, and in a 20g one or two of these is max. Then there are fish that have differing temperature needs (the white clouds need cooler water than most of the other fish can manage in).
I strongly recommend you search each of these fish species in our profiles; information on numbers, water parameters (you may have soft or hard water, this will make a difference in what fish will live in your water), and compatibility is included for each species. The profiles are second tab from the left in the blue bar across the top of the screen. The tetra are under "Characins", the rasbora, danio and white clouds are under "Cyprinids", the corydoras are under "Catfish," the mollies, guppies, platies and swordtails are under "Livebearers."
Once you've researched them, any subsequent specific questions can easily be answered by one or more of us.
Byron will steer you in the right direction. Roughly speaking, the first group you outlined likes hard, basic water (minus the tetras) and the second group likes soft, acidic water.
Depending on what your water is naturally will point you in the right direction.
