Filter Tube Cleaning
I was wondering what methods you guys use to clean canister filter tubes. They are probably 3-4 feet long, and I've noticed some build up on the inside of them. I know you can buy long brushes that clean tubes, but those won't even make it half way in. I was thinking about maybe just running hot water through them, but I don't know about that.
What are some good methods of cleaning the inside of long filter tubes? Unless they sell really long brushes, haha.
Well the best way I know to do it is to use a sponge tied to a long piece of really heavy fishing line. I know it is not as long but I use one for my tubes of my AC HOB filters and it works great to get the parts that a toothbrush won't reach. Most sporting good and hardware stores should have some really cheap 50-100 pound test fishing line that would great. Then get a sponge and cut it to fit snuggly on the tube doubled over and tie the fishing line to the middle of it.
I have seen cleaners that are well over 3 feet long at my LFS so they do make them long enough for the tubes. The ones here are on a flexible shaft that will go around the bends so you can clean the whole thing.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm trying to go with my cheapest option cause I know an over-sized brush at a fish store would be ridiculous.
