Eheim 2217 Filter Rant/Rave
Ok, i bought this filter and finally got it yesterday. I heard all the stories about how the instructions were garbage and it was ahrd to use. Well, i will agree with that. First, it doesnt tell you that you have to cut small sections from the hoses to make the quick disc fit, which is fine, i understood how it worked. Then it tells me to suck on the pressure hose to start suction and to prime the filter, tried this and failed many times. Then i read on about cleaing the filter, and it says to suck on the feed hose and let air out the pressure hose WTF to diff ways?? But turns out that way worked (suck on return hose) and it started the syphon right up.
My next rant is from Petsmart, when i got it, they did a piss poor job boxing it, 2 of the silver clamps that hold the lid on were off, i fixed one, the other was broken, it works once the lid is on, but as soon as tension is lifted, it falls off the filter. Also, one of the locks was INSIDE the pump head, i had to pry it open with a screwdriver, i could hear is bouncing around in there, no clue as to how that happened. Then when i go to seal it up, 2 of the locking clamps dont even hold tight, they just kind of rest there, but whatever, it sealed up fine.
Ok, now the rave. The filter is quiet as ****!!!!! Cant even hear it. It has good flow and seems to have helped clear the tank overnight!! There is still some work to be done, but i love it. Im going to give it a week or so to build up bact, then remove my old HOB filter.
If anyone has any suggestions or comments, please leave them. I know im suppose to remove the carbon pad after 2 weeks, anything else?
All and all, once you get this filter working, its awesome!!
I just purchased the same one for my 55 gallon and i do agree with you that the directions are horrible. With that said i''m looking forward to using it, i've been researching a canister filter for a while now and that one had the the best reviews everywhere.
I had the Eheim 2213 for my 55g and LOVED it. There is a How-To Video on YouTube that helped me with setting it up since the instructions included really are garbage. I too loved it and have absolutely no complaints about it.
