New Tank Idea?
Ok, so I have some experience caring for fish and I'm trying to get a ten gallon for my dorm room. I'm trying to decide what fish would work well together. I had an idea to get a male Dwarf Gourami and maybe 5 tetras/guppies? Any advice?

Sorry, reconsidered. FEMALE gourami.

I would suggest a bottom feeder such as loaches (beware they get big) or a small group of corys. Also look into oto's especially in a dorm room where you will probably get lots of natural light and therefore algae. You are lucky to be able to get fish in your dorm room, I wasn't allowed ( I had to move of campus in order to get my current set ups

Yea, I would like to get bigger but ten is the limit. Would you think it would be too many fish to have the gourami, the 4/5 guppies/tetras and the otos?

From my research (I'm looking into setting up a similar set up) you could do a shoal of 5-6 neon tetras (very pretty and they stay small. A group of 3 otos or corys they both stay relatively small. And use a dwarf Gourami as the center piece of the tank. I have a powder blue and a blood variety of them (see my tanks) they are still close to being my favourite fish that i own.

Oh wow I like the Lambchop Rasboras. And it doesn't look like they are too difficult to care for. Do you think a female Dwarf Gourami would be agressive toward the Rasboras or the Corys?

i think you would be golden...go for it...
