? about my new water readings
Ok I am going to be moveing and the water at my new house has a hardness of around 8 were as my current water is 6, also my Ph at new house is 7.2 the current is around 7 also the new house has a very slight reading of phosperus(not sure if I spelled that right lol) the guys at the LFS said the fish should not have any problem with the new levels but I want to ask you guys also because I trust you more than I do them. LOL
The fish I have are honey sunset gourami, neon tetra, harliquin rasbora, peacock gudgeon, albino corys, coryadorus duplicarious, rosy red minnows, ember tetras, pygmy corys, buenos aires tetras, and male bettas.
That slight an increase in hardness should not be problematic. However, given some of the fish you list, I would consider changing less water at a time, knowing you also have plants. As the tank matures, the relative softness of the water will allow it to acidify and the pH will lower, below 7 would be ideal in the tank. Changing less water each water change will help to prevent the pH from rising. Diluting the water with rainwater is another option.
Phosphate is a macro-nutrient essential to plants for strong root development and flowering (the latter not of much concern in the aquarium). Phosphate is generally absorbed through the roots, so it is often more prevalent in the substrate, but I won't go into all that. It is often present in fishfoods, and there is usually more of it in the aquarium than necessary. It can then cause algae blooms. So you want to control it. I would keep an eye on things at the beginning.
Thank you Byron. I normally do about 20-30% a week so should I do about 10-20% instead?
LOL ok I got it I will just keep doing what I have been doing then. Thanks again for all your help.
