xenia

i just bought some xenia yesterday and it's been laying kinda flat the whole time. i want to say it's "wilted" looking but not really. basically it's not standing up straight like it was at the store. is it too soon to tell if anything is wrong? should i just wait it out? water parameters are good. i placed them high in my tank, i have a 65w pc for a 30 gallon.

zenia are kind of a flaky coral and can act funny. although it is hardy it can die very easily (even by moving it from one spot to another). Try giving it some time to see if it will open up.

thanks for the reply, i know they would be tricky but thought they would be worth the try. however, just to clarify, the xenia is open it's just not standing up straight like its supposed to, it's just open and fallen over basically.

oh ok, well all i can say is wait to see if it stands up.

thanks so much. just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything i might not be aware of.

i dont think so. we have had zenia appear to be dying only in a few days to have it up and doubled is size. good luck with yours!! :)

thanks for the reply, those are some reassuring words!

if its gonna die,its gonna die fast, like over night.its most likely trying the adjust to the lights.2 watts a gallon is most likely the lowest light its ever been under, but my daughters tank has about that.it quaddruples ever cpl wks in my tank.they love reef complete, and are sensitive to change in salinity so keep it stable.before long it'll be everywhere.

thanks for the reply. it's been a few weeks now and it's doing really well. i've placed it at the top and i'm feeding it so i can't wait till it starts spreading but i feel i'm going to regret saying that soon. thanks again

If you dont want to to spread to other spots but tonga branch pieces around it. When it spreads on to it remove it take it to a LFS and get more tonga branch and do the same.
