(Aulonocara sp.) Mine breed like bunnies and I never had a problem! Just make sure you have enough places for there tankmates to hide (out of site out of mind)!

Auloncara nyassea I believe is the scientific name. Years ago, many thought this was a hard fish to breed. As these fish became more widely distributed in the hobby (via breeders), they have become more and more easily bred. Spawns are not as prolific as a red zebra, but at the same time, you will have more fry than a frontosa. I currently have breeding colonies of about five different color morphs of including albinos, yellows, and sulphurs. All are producing (or should I say reproducing) just fine.

I have kept mine in a community tank before. It doesn't really matter. If you set up a breeder tank you will need to protect the female. The male will constantly drive her to spawn. She will not until she is egged up. His persistant advances will become constantly more aggressive and he may even kill her. You can seperate the two by using a tank divider or a seperate tank, which I do. The reason for the seperate tank is so that I can apply meds, as needed, to help the female heal from the previous spawn.
