What to feed Bolivian Rams?

I purchased two Bolivian Rams yesterday afternoon and stupid me figured they'd eat flake food. They show no interest in it at all. What can you reccommend as the best food for them?

In my experience Bolivian Rams will not feed from the surface; at least mine never have. As noted in our profile of this species, they are substrate feeders, so any sinking foods intended for catfish and loaches works. Mine will eat any of these, just as long as the food sinks to the substrate. They will also readily eat frozen bloodworms in the water column (what fish won't???).

mine take hikari sinking wafers if i break them up into smaller bits and also love frozen bloodworm and chopped earthworm. they occasionally eat my hikari cichlid pellets if i sink them but they can be quite fussy

Thankyou!

I've got brine shrimp in my freezer and algae wafers for my snail, will that do?

Try them. I alternate between four different types of sinking foods (have a lot of bottom fish) and I know the Bolivians pick at the pellets, wafers, tablets. They must be eating or they wouldn't still be alive after 2 years in the tank. And they love frozen bloodworms, but these should not be a staple, 2 or 3 times a week max for any fish. I like to have as much variety (= different makes) as I can get in foods to ensure complete balanced nutrition.

rams love a little daphnia if you can get some...just turn the filters off and watch them go nuts...i use daphnia to prep fish for breeding but definitly feed them in moderation...ADIOS...
