Aggressive hermet crabs?
I just got a Left handed hermet crab also called Blue eyed hermet.I have heard that they kill snails for thier shell. Will they kill a Tiger cowry?i dont want to lose my cowry...
The Blue-Eye Hermit Crab is best kept in a species only tank or a large tank with large fish. It has also been know to capture smaller fish as they sleep at night.
Not recommended for reef tanks, due to its eventual size and its appetite for smaller fish and defenseless invertebrates.
Diet & Feeding:
This Hermit Crab scavenges just about anything within reach of the bottom, including small fish, defenseless invertebrates, algae, and uneaten food. Its diet should be supplemented with aquarium foods once they have scraped the tank bare.
ah the left claw blue eyed hermit....bulls in a china shop if you have a reef.. i have had them compete with several poyps for foods..and they definatly will try for your snails..try turbo snails if you have to have them as they have a trap door like mechanism that can help a little against predation...as far as the cowrie thats up in the air...i think that the cowrie could retreat into its shell for protection but in the long run will the cowrie be able to compete for foods???...keep an eye on the littl guy..and make sure the hermit is fed daily if greenery is not present...ADIOS....
