Help with guppies
I have a 300 liter tank with guppies, black and dalmation mollies, neon tetras, cherry barbs and a few gouramis, i've lost about 5 guppies in the last few days, i took a water sample to my local tropical fish store they ran a water test and everything seems to be in order ammonia levels nitrite and nitrate levels etc are fine yet my guppies are passing away with a vengeance, i've noticed that their bodies tend to go brown as if associated with nitrite poisoning yet the nitrite levels are normal, they either lie on the bottom of the tank listless or upside down...yet the other fish are fine, anyone have any idea on what might be causing this? :-(

They like hard(ish) water. Do you know the ph?

That's all I can think of unless they were ill when you got them. Are they a recent purchase?

From my experience when a fish starts to turn brown, especially around the gills the water company has added chloramine to the water to replace chlorine. I have had to use a double dose of water conditioner in order to get this out of the water. I'm not sure that this is the issue if only the guppies in the tank are having the issue, definitely something to look into though

So, what is the ph?

Also, never ever trust a LFS. Buy a test kit.

I am sorry to hear and see about your fish. What color were they originally? Did they swim around like that for awhile and then just pass? That is really weird, I hope you can get to the bottom of it soon though, I hate hearing things like that.
