Healthy but "Disabled"?? need help pls

Hi All:

6 weeks ago I noticed my smoky blue angel on his side in the tank. I fished him out and put him in a 2 gal Qtank( w/airstone and heater) thinking he was going to be dead the next day.
He wasnt - in fact, I have been changing his water every day, giving him a 3 minute salt dip every other day and a drop of methene blue every day.
Aside from being unable to right himself - he seems healthy. He's eating well and there are no signs of injury or parasites. He's just flopping about (and pretty darned fiesty when doing water changes) the tank (since he cant seem to get around any other way)
and none of my fish books can give me a clue as to what is going on with this fish.
My question is: How long do I keep this up? I really really hate to euthinize a living creature unless its obvious to me that its suffering. Does anyone out there have a healthy but "disabled" fish they cant put in a tank wth anything else? Do I bite the bullet and freeze the fish?
This angel is a medium size and came from a 55 with bosami rainbows and roseline sharks - bought about 2 years and havent had a problem with tankmates.

Thanks for any help!!
